Use the camera at eye level, soft light, a neutral expression and a distance of around 1.5–2 metres. Avoid wide-angle selfies, filters and portrait retouching. Use the same setup when you compare photographs over time.
These instructions reduce common sources of variation; they do not make a phone photo a medical scan. If a feature is not clear, the right next step is another photo or an in-person opinion.
